Throughout my life I have had one Addiction after another, and I am not talking about drugs, alcohol or tobacco. My most resent addiction has to do with Rock Climbing. I have been climbing for about a year and have fallen in love with the sport. The pure Strength and stamina that it takes to be a good climber is inspiring I watch the Men, Woman, Boys and Girls of all ages in the gym and can’t help but want to be as strong and balanced as they are. And it is this desire that keeps me up at night and drags me to the Gym at all hours. I spend more money then I should on videos, clothes, training equipment or anything that might help me climb one grade harder.

           Before climbing it was Running, Racquet Ball, Cycling, Motor cycles and about every hobby that you can imagine. So this brings up the Question what is your Addiction? What keeps you up at night? What is it that drifts through your mind when you are alone and have nothing to do?   

            It as been 5 month since at the age of 33 my brother had his heart attack and 2 years after my dad’s.  And now I find myself having to change my life in one way or another.

            Up tell now I have been taking meds to try and control my cholesterol level. It is easy to take a pill every night and not have to worry about what I ate or how far I ran that day.  But there is a trade off I’ve put on weight and my energy is way down. And all in all I just feel like crap!!!  

            I might be able to control my cholesterol with diet and exercise but the doc says that ,with my family history, I will most likely have to take cholesterol meds at some point. And the diet and exercise may not be enough on it own. 

So I guess that the problem facing me is do I take the meds for the rest of my life or do I work my butt off and try to control it myself with diet and exercise?  I know that people face harder chooses then this every day and I am making a mountain out of a mole hill but being in good shape has been a defining part of my life since high school and it is hard to change Expectations I have for myself.
